A man arrested for fleeing the scene of a crash in Mono allegedly tried to kick his way out of a police cruiser.

Dufferin County OPP say they received information about a BMW sedan crashing into a fence on the 1st Line of Mono on Friday at 8:55 a.m. The caller told police that the driver had fled the scene on foot.

According to police, the driver was located a short time later and was arrested for failing to remain at the scene of a collision.

The accused was placed in the back of a police cruiser, where he allegedly tried to kick out the prisoner cage and the side window.

Police say the man actively resisted police and continued to be violent at a local hospital.

The 28-year-old Toronto man has been charged with dangerous driving, failing to remain, driving under suspension and three counts of mischief under $5,000.

The accused will appear in an Orangeville court at a future date.
