An Orillia man is being accused of trying to cash cheques stolen from a local church.

Provincial police received a report from an official at an Orillia bank on Thursday, who believed a man was trying cash stolen cheques.

The OPP say they determined the cheques were written to a local church.

The 39-year-old was arrested and charged with fraud under $5,000, seven counts of possession of property obtained by crime, four counts of uttering forged documents and two counts of breach of probation.

The accused was held for a bail hearing on Friday.
