Police say a tip led them to a suspect wanted in connection to two robberies on Friday.

According to Barrie police, a man walked into the TD Bank on Collier Street at around 9:30 a.m. and approached a teller. That’s when police say the man claimed to have a weapon and demanded cash.

An undisclosed amount of money was handed over and the man fled the scene on foot. A weapon was never seen and no one was hurt.

At 3 p.m. that same day, investigators say a man entered PD Murphy Jewelers in Orillia and told the clerk he had a gun in his backpack.

A number of rings were handed over and the man fled the scene. No injuries are reported.

On Tuesday, investigators announced they had arrested a 50-year-old Barrie man in connection to both robberies, thanks to a tip from the public. Officers found the suspect at a home on Peele Street in Barrie.

Barrie police have charged the accused with robbery with a firearm, while OPP have issued a charge of robbery with a weapon.

He will appear before a Barrie court on Wednesday.
