A major road in Muskoka has been closed and is not expected to reopen until the end of October.

The Ministry of Transportation closed Highway 141 at the Rosseau River Bridge due to an unsafe foundation.

Officials say they are working to open the bridge as soon as possible but that is not expected until the end of October.

The Ministry says drivers can use highways 400, 518 and 11 to navigate around the full closure on Highway 141.

Emergency crews have been advised and provisions are in place to continue service to the area.
