An Orillia school was briefly put in lockdown on Tuesday morning, while provincial police investigated reports of a possible weapon on the property.

Orillia Secondary School was placed in lockdown at 8:50 a.m. after OPP was contacted about the possible weapon.

Officers conducted a thorough search of the property and determined there were no weapons at the school. The lockdown was lifted by 9:05 a.m.

“The safety of our students and our schools is paramount and together we are ensuring that we offer the safest of environments for our children,” said Const. Jeff MacEachern in a news release.

Police are thanking school administration, staff and students for their cooperation during the lockdown.
