The Collingwood area may be best known for skiing, but this week hockey is taking centre stage … behind the scenes.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are in Collingwood for three days of off-ice training.

Coach Randy Carlyle says they’re trying to keep a low profile.

“We haven't really mixed with the locals that much but that's by design,” said Carlyle.

Leaf rookie Josh Leivo, who’s from Innisfil, says teammate Phil Kessel and the rest of the team are enjoying their time here, which included a round of paintball.

“Phil had this gun with a little more firepower than the other guys,” said Leivo. "I think the guys like it up here."

The Montreal Canadiens also trained in Collingwood in 2011.

The Leafs will head back to Toronto after a practice session on Thursday morning.
