Time is running out for local charities hoping to help those in need this Christmas.

One of those local charities, the Barrie and District Christmas Cheer program, is about $120,000 short of its goal.

“We really only have about a day and half to meet the food goal,” said Steph Quenneville with the program. “What we need is canned goods, meats, fish and ham. We need some toys for infant children, boys and girls ages 7 to 10, and of course we always need money.”

Major Neil Evenden with the Salvation Army says food donations will help almost 1000 people this Christmas, and that the sooner they get donations the better.

“It's the canned fruit the canned vegetables, the corn, and the peas that we're low on right now,” he said. “We're looking at about 325 families that we help with this facility.”
