A 20-year-old kayaker who went missing on Lake Huron after going in search of his friends has been found.

Police say they got a call about the man around 1 a.m. Thursday morning, after he was last seen on the lake around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Sauble Beach area.

OPP officers, the coast guard and members of the air force conducted a search on the water and from a helicopter and an airplane.

Police say the man was found in the water by a search and rescue team just before 7 a.m., and was taken to a hospital in Wiarton, Ont., with minor injuries.

Police found that the man had gone in search of two friends who had been kayaking on Lake Huron but had failed to return. Those two friends eventually returned safely, but the man did not.

Police say while he was searching for his friends, the man's kayak capsized and he was unable to get back to shore.
