A robbery suspect was arrested, following a brief foot chase in Barrie early Wednesday morning.

A man wearing a mask walked into a convenience store on Dunlop Street, just after midnight. According to Barrie police, the man was armed with what appeared to be handgun.

The suspect demanded cash and cigarettes from the clerk, who complied. The man then left the store on foot. The clerk was not injured in the incident.

After speaking with witnesses, officers were able to locate the man running towards Wellington Street. A K-9 unit was deployed and the man was arrested.

Police say an airsoft pistol was discovered; they believe it was used in the robbery.

The 23-year-old Barrie man has been charged with use of a firearm while committing an offence, weapons dangerous, utter threats and disguise with intent.

The accused will appear in court at a later date.
