A fiery crash over the weekend in Michigan has claimed the life of an Innisfil woman.

Cassandra Hunter, 27, was the passenger in a 1984 Mazda R7A when it was struck from behind by a Ford F-150 on I-75 in Troy, Mich. on Sunday. The Mazda caught fire after the initial collision.  

Hunter and the driver of the Mazda, a 29-year-old Innisfil man, were rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

Hunter was later pronounced dead. The man remains in hospital with critical injuries.

The driver of the truck was arrested on suspicion for impaired driving. Charges are pending against the 35-year-old Warren, Mich. man.

Hunter was set to marry the driver of the Mazda next month.

The crash remains under investigation.
