A 35-year-old man has died after a large piece of metal fell on him at an industrial site in Innisfil.

The fatal incident happened at a site on Highway 89 that is rented to Toronto Crane on Wednesday, just before 8:45 a.m. The man is an employee of Toronto Crane.

According to South Simcoe Police, the Innisfil man was dismantling a piece of an old metal crane when a large piece of metal fell and pinned him. He was later pronounced dead.

"One of his co-workers did discover him pinned underneath a piece of the metal debris," says SSP Staff Sgt. Steve Wilson.

Work at the site was shut down for the day, while investigators probe the incident.

Ontario’s Ministry of Labour has been contacted and will take over the investigation.
