An Innisfil man has been charged after allegedly fleeing police, while being heavily drunk early Sunday morning.

According to South Simcoe Police, an officer spotted a Dodge Dakota speeding onto Simcoe Road in downtown Bradford West Gwillimbury, around 2 a.m. The officer activated his lights and gave chase.

Police say the pickup truck continued to speed away from the officer and eventually pulled into a driveway on Rak Court. The officer spoke with the man and determined he was driving the truck while impaired.

The 23-year-old was brought back to a South Simcoe Police detachment, where he took a breathalyzer and allegedly registered over twice the legal blood alcohol content.

The man now faces several charges and will appear before a court later this month.
