An impaired driver was responsible for a crash on Friday night on Highway 400 just north of Highway 89, police say.

According to OPP, an SUV and a tractor trailer crashed into a guard rail along the northbound lanes of the highway, at around 7:30 p.m.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says the driver of the SUV has been charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving and driving while under suspension.

One lane of the highway was shut down for short time, causing heavy backups for northbound traffic. The highway reopened late Friday night.

The investigation continues.
