Highway 400 has reopened south of Bradford after a crash caused a flammable liquid to spill from a transport truck Thursday afternoon.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says the transport truck collided with another vehicle on the highway near Canal Road, just before 1:30 p.m. The crash caused the truck to spill what is believed to be paint thinner.

The spill forced the closure of the highway in both directions between Highway 88 and Highway 9.

According to police, the truck contained a considerable amount of the liquid and it was a slow cleanup. Both Bradford fire and Barrie hazmat crews assisted at the scene.

Police say they were concerned because the liquid is highly flammable. As a precaution, some people living around the area and people stuck in their vehicles were evacuated.

The highway reopened early Friday morning.
