Severn Fire Department and the OPP spent the day combing the waters just south of Washago. The OPP helicopter was brought in, along with several boats, to help with the search.

Police say the 30 year-old man was out duck hunting when the canoe he was in capsized around 8 a.m.

“Initially he was out duck hunting with another person, and he then went out by himself in the canoe to retrieve the ducks, and the canoe overturned,” says Sergeant Jeff Dorion with Midland Police.

Police say the Bracebridge man was not wearing a life jacket.

The OPP dive team arrived in the afternoon and are now involved in the search.

Police are reminding anyone heading out on the water to wear a life jacket. Conditions are changing quickly, and the water temperature is dropping.
