Just before 3:30 p.m. on Friday a passerby noticed a fire at a two-storey home in Springwater Township, southwest of Elmvale.

Firefighters from all four Springwater stations responded and mutual aid was called in from Tiny Township and Clearview.

They had to use ladders to put out the flames which were whipped up by strong winds blowing across a field.

The smoke was so thick – a nearby road had to be closed to traffic.

No one was home at the time and damage is estimated at $300,000

Firefighters are in the process of pinpointing the origin of the fire but say it may remain undetermined because of the amount of damage.
