A late-night fire in Innisfil on Wednesday April 23, 2014 destroyed a home but fire crews were able to save neighbouring homes.

The fire started just after 10:30 p.m. on 1116 Gilford Rd. and when crews arrived there were flames coming through the roof. Crews started a defensive attack and were able to save the neighbouring homes. Officials say nobody was home at the time of the fire and was undergoing major renovations.

The Town of Innisfil said a nearby, newly constructed fire hydrant had not been connected to the water system so firefighters were forced to bring in water by tankers to fight the fire. Some damage was sustained by two neighbouring homes but there were no injuries reported.

“Fire prevention start with you,” says Innisfil Fire Chief Jon Pegg in a release. “Innisfil Fire and Rescue Services would like to remind all residents and property owners of the importance of installing smoke alarms, and taking fire precautions.”

Fire investigators remained on scene of the fire on Thursday and say the cause will be undetermined due to the extent of the damage which is estimated at $250,000.
