A school swap of sorts will be taking place in the community of Honey Harbour.

The Trillium Lakelands District School Board and Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board have worked together to make it possible for Honey Harbour Public School to relocate to the former Our Lady of Mercy Elementary School.

Through an accommodation review process, Our Lady of Mercy Elementary School closed June 30, 2017.

In April, Trillium Lakelands School Board trustees voted in favour of keeping Honey Harbour Public School open for five more years.

Relocating Honey Harbour Public School will allow Trillium Lakelands District School Board to provide enhanced programming for students including room for additional classrooms, a gymnasium, and a library.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our Honey Harbour Public School community,” stated TLDSB Chair Louise Clodd, “This building will provide the space needed to reduce the number of grades in each classroom.”

Catholic students will attend St. Antoine Daniel Catholic Elementary School in Victoria Harbour in September.

“We are very excited to have partnered with Trillium Lakelands District School Board so that their students and staff can make use of the former Our Lady of Mercy facility,” said Brian Beal, Director of Education for the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board. “It is never easy to close a school, but with our students able to relocate to St. Antoine Daniel in Victoria Harbour and now with Honey Harbour School relocating to this location, we have found a solution that suits everyone.”

There will not be any changes to school, classroom, or bussing schedules for students attending Honey Harbour Public School in September.
