After nine years, there’s a new name and a bigger goal for an annual hockey fundraiser.

Organizers and sponsors officially launched Hockey Night in Simcoe County on Friday, replacing the former event of Hockey Night in Barrie.

Under the changes, the event will benefit three hospitals: Georgian Bay General Hospital, Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, and Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.

"When we started this no one ever thought that it would be raising $1.4 million.  I want to support the health care providers that I can in Simcoe County,” says Simcoe North MPP and organizer Patrick Brown.

Apart from Mike Gartner, there's no word yet on which hockey stars will be in the lineup.

Hockey Night in Simcoe County will take place Aug. 11 at the Barrie Molson Centre.
