Some children from the Beausoleil First Nation community will get a chance to suit up and play in a hockey tournament, thanks to the efforts of a kind hockey dad and a generous community.

When Graham McWaters learned that many families from the community couldn’t afford hockey equipment, he asked parents from the Richmond Hill Stars organization to help by pitching in some used equipment.

“I saw this group of players and parents coming into the rink and I noticed some of them didn't have hockey bags,” said McWaters. “So I asked ‘how would you like some used equipment if I can get it for you?’

The result was a tremendous response:  eight hockey bags full of gear for the children.

Now, 40 boys and girls from the community will be able to skate their hearts out at a hockey tournament in March, called the “Little NHL Hockey Tournament”

The Beausoleil First Nation community has registered four teams for the March break tournament.

“It's incredible that all these people are so generous to us” said hockey player Colby Sandy.

Coaches and parents are also starting a fundraising campaign to help pay for the team’s jerseys and transportation costs.
