Metrolinx expects GO Train service on the Barrie line to be back to normal on Friday morning, after two unusual incidents cut short Thursday’s ride home for hundreds of passengers.

It was shortly before 6:00 p.m.on Thursday night when a fatal accident on the tracks forced a northbound train to stop along the railroad at Stroud.

South Simcoe Police tell CTV News the death is not considered suspicious, and their investigation into the matter has been closed.

One hundred and eighty-five passengers were taken from the scene in Stroud to Barrie by buses, while remaining northbound trains were stopped at Bradford station.

Making matters worse, a radio communication failure along the railroad forced subsequent trains leaving Union Station to travel in pairs along the Barrie line Thursday evening, making double stops at stations along the way.

All of those trains were also stopped at Bradford, with delays of up to two hours.

Metrolinx spokesperson Kim Johnson told CTV News on Thursday evening that the situation was regrettable.

“We thank all GO Transit customers for their patience and understanding as we work to ensure everyone reaches their final destinations quickly and safely”, said Johnson.

She said normal service was expected to resume for Friday morning’s commute.
