No foul play is suspected in the case of a woman who was seriously injured after getting out of a moving vehicle on Highway 400.

The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon on the highway just before Essa Road in Barrie.

The woman got out of the vehicle and suffered serious head injuries, according to Simcoe County paramedics. The OPP say she was not hit by a vehicle.

The woman was rushed to a Toronto hospital with life threatening injuries.

The northbound lanes of the highway were closed for several hours, causing massive traffic backups.

Police are still trying to figure out why the woman got out of the vehicle.
