A former Barrie teacher is facing a number of charges following a child sexual assault investigation.

On September 16, 2015, the OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Unit received a complaint in regards to a sexual assault on a child.

Police began an investigation and learned that the allegations date back to a period of time between September 2004 and June 2005, when the man was a teacher at an elementary school in Barrie.

OPP Detective Sergeant Paul Thompson tells CTV News the victim was a student at the school. At this point police are not aware of any other victims but are asking anyone with any more information to come forward.

David Carswell, 61, from London is charged with one count of sexual assault, one count of sexual interference and one count of sexual exploitation.

The investigation is continuing.
