We are less than two weeks until Easter and food banks in our region are hoping the public can help those less fortunate.

What remains of the Christmas drive donations are starting to run low at the Barrie Food Bank. The hope is that shelves will be restocked with the upcoming Easter drive.

“We're already out of oatmeal, and very short on pancake mix and a lot of things like that and if we don't have it, we can't break it down to give to people so we're already out of some critical ingredients,” says Pam Cope, a food bank volunteer.

Barrie's food bank needs 85,000 pounds of food to get through the spring and summer season. In the weeks leading up to Easter, the donations will come in by the bag load, but something that is often overlooked is supplies for babies. A lot of people in the community rely on the food banks for diapers and wipes.

“We have no size five, size six diapers... we have no baby wipes, we have no Pull-Ups whatsoever, we're completely out of those,” Peter Sundborg, executive director of the Barrie Food Bank.

Diaper donations are also needed at the Aurora Food Pantry, so much so, the organization had to buy some.

“If we do have the money, then we will go out and buy the bigger sizes like five or sixes. We don't typically buy the Pull-Ups, but they are sometimes asked for,” says Nancy-Jean Rummenie, a food bank volunteer.

Those looking to donate can drop off items at either food bank.
