The Governor General handed out forty-two medals of Bravery on Thursday April 24, 2014 to Canadians who reached out to help others at their own risk.

Five people were honoured – including David Simpson of Bracebridge. Simpson and two other men, Alexander Robertson and off-duty police Sergeant John Jorginson rescued a woman from a burning vehicle in Bracebridge in May of 2011.

Also honoured was Melville Farnell of Shelburne who rescued a man from a burning car in Caledon in 2011. And 15-year-old Tayler Gostick of McKellar was honoured for rescuing his grandfather from possible drowning.
