Bradford firefighters have kicked back a blaze at a vegetable sorting plant and are now dealing with hotspots.

South Simcoe police and fire crews were called to Dominion Farm Produce Company at 215 Dissette St. around 9:48 a.m. Responding officers reported seeing billowing black smoke coming from the building.

South Simcoe police say the fire is under control. Firefighters are still at the scene dealing with hotspots, while officers are securing the area.

Police have closed off Dissette between Holland Street East and Jay Street. The public is being asked to avoid the area.

Dominion Farm opened in Bradford in 1965. They process and pack carrots, onions, parsnips and red beets under the Country Fresh Brand and several private labels.

A member of the Ontario Fire Marshal's officer has been contacted to investigate.
