Fire destroyed a home in Gravenhurst Wednesday night causing more than $100,000 in damages.

It happened just before 10:00 p.m. at a home on Fitchett Lane in former Ryde Township area.

Fire officials say the owner had just left for work, when neighbour saw flames coming out of the home.

Fire fighters were forced to shuttle water in to fight the fire but were able to prevent it from spreading to other buildings on the property.

“The fire was in a very advanced state when it was first noticed. There was little crews could do except protect a bunkie and shed on the property and keep the fire contained,” said Gravenhurst Fire Chief Larry Brassard in a release. “A metal roof hampered extinguishment efforts somewhat, but thankfully and despite icy conditions in and around the incident site, there were no injuries”, he added.

Officials don’t believe the fire is suspicious and say a cause of the fire will not be determined due to the amount of damage.

Nobody was injured in the fire.
