Fire crews are continuing to investigate a fire that damaged a home in Beeton Saturday evening.

The fire broke out around 6 p.m. on Saturday. The flames tore through the main floor of the home causing structural damage to the roof.

“We are into some structural because we do have some sagging on the roof and we do know that we have some rafters that are burned out,” said New Tecumseth Fire Chief Dan Heydon, Saturday night.

The woman who lives in the house was not home at the time, but her neighbour Mark Dixon ran barefoot into the burning house, because he thought he heard someone calling for help.

“I just thought there was somebody in there, and I did what I had to do…I saw a lot of smoke,” he said on Sunday.

Dixon says he cares about his neighbours, and didn’t know the owner wasn’t home at the time.

“I’m still a little shaken, but I think I’ll be alright,” he says as he looks at the burnt building.

On Sunday fire crews were back on the scene investigating. The fire chief was not available to comment further on the investigation. The cause of the fire is still unknown.
