Extreme heat and tinder dry conditions have many municipalities issuing fire bans.

The restriction has been put in place for Adjala-Tosorontio, Essa, Caledon, Midland, Mulmur Township, Melancthon Township, Penetanguishene, Tay and Tiny Township.

The ban means there can be no open air burning or fireworks use until further notice.

Fire departments across Simcoe County have also set their fire danger ratings to high. This means conditions are very favourable for brush and grass fires.

It follows weeks of dry, hot weather across Ontario. It’s a trend that is expected to continue this weekend, as temperature reach 40 C with the humidex.

A heat warning is in place and people are being asked to stay hydrated.

Both the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority and the Nottawasaga Valley Conservation Authority have raised their low water status to level one.

They’re asking for a 10 per cent voluntary reduction on water usage. This includes reductions in irrigation, industrial processes and residential use.

The Town of Shelburne has implemented its water restriction bylaw. Watering lawns and vegetables is being restricted, with the exception of fresh sod.
