The Town of Collingwood is getting some help from the federal and provincial governments to help pay for $11.4 million in infrastructure improvements on Hume Street.

Both levels of government announced on Tuesday they will each provide up to $1 million in funding to assist the town with the reconstruction.

"Today’s investment will help to see a complete reconstruction of Hume Street, which will improve road safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists in Collingwood,” said Jeff Leal, Ontario’s minister of agriculture, food and rural affairs in a statement.

Improvements include the addition of turning lanes and drainage facilities, as well as road re-pavement.

“The reconstruction of Hume Street will provide improved travel for residents and visitors, to many important facilities in our community, including the Collingwood General & Marine Hospital,” Mayor Sandra Cooper said in a statement.

The town will pay the remaining cost of the reconstruction through reserve funds, federal gas tax money and development charges.

Work on Hume Street is expected to be completed by November.
