In an effort to clean up Lake Simcoe, the federal government is investing $77, 000 to help conserve the fish habitat along the Holland River.

The money will be used to build water shelves along the West Holland River to help stop sentiments and phosphorous inputs from going into the river.

“We’re seeing the lake health improve, native special that haven’t spawned here are spawning again,” said York Simcoe MP Peter Van Loan. “We’re seeing Lake Simcoe’s phosphorus inputs reduce and we’re seeing the lake rebound as a result of some of these investments.

The money is part of the Recreation Fisheries Partnership Program, which has helped pay for 16 lake cleanup projects in the province.
