The Chippewas of Georgina Island say new investments will help ensure reliable drinking water for the First Nation.

The federal government will invest about 2.6-million dollars to upgrade and expand the First Nation's water treatment plant.

The project is designed to ensure the Lake Simcoe community's 208 residents will have access to clean, safe drinking water.

The upgrades are expected to be complete by March of 2019 and a drinking water advisory at Georgina Island can be lifted.
