A man has been charged after OPP caught his 9-year-old son operating a watercraft on Lake Simcoe Friday morning.

Members of the OPP Barrie Marine Unit were on patrol on Lake Simcoe around 11:50 a.m. when they stopped a father and son who were operating two separate personal watercrafts.

The man was charged with ‘Allowing a person under 16 years of age to operate a person watercraft’ under the Canada Shipping Act.

Police are reminding the public that operators of watercrafts must be 16 years of age or older and have a proper licence.
