A family of four has lost their home after a fire destroyed their trailer on Thursday afternoon.

Fire crews were called the Four Seasons Trailer Park on Baseline Road, south of Gravenhurst, around 2:45 p.m. after reports of the fire.

When crews arrived they found the trailer engulfed in flames. The trailer was destroyed but crews were able to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby propane tanks, a trailer and a service building

Fire officials say the suspected cause of the fire is combustibles left too close to a space heater.

“Quick action by firefighters kept the fire from spreading to the adjacent mobile home and service building,” said Gravenhurst Deputy Chief Todd Clapp. “The extensive damage to the mobile home and contents made the fire origin and cause impossible, but we suspect that a space heater may have come into contact with combustibles, igniting them and spreading to other combustible materials.”

Damage is estimated at $45,000. There were no injuries but two dogs died in the fire.

The family did not have insurance but their extended family and community members are rallying to assist them.
