It's going to be some time before a number of families left homeless after a fire at a Barrie apartment complex over the weekend will be able to return home.

Today as immediate emergency care runs out, the Salvation Army met with the city to try and help those families in the weeks and months ahead.

There are 13 families now staying at a hotel but the Salvation Army says 28 families are in need. The organization is accepting donations if people want to help, and is looking at setting up a specific account for the D'Ambrosio Drive tenants in the next few days.

Until accommodations are found they aren’t looking for furniture or any other donations yet.
