The first significant snowfall of the season has arrived for central and southern Ontario.

Environment Canada was expecting two to four centimetres of heavy snow to fall for much of Simcoe County and Dufferin County by the end of Thursday.

Residents living around Creemore, Flesherton and Shelburne could see five to 10 centimetres.

It’s a similar story further north. Environment Canada is forecasting two to five centimetres in Grey County, Kawartha Lakes and Muskoka.

However, areas in the Haliburton Highlands could see five to 10 centimetres.

A special weather statement warning of snowfall and strong wind gusts remains in effect for:

  • Midland - Coldwater - Orr Lake
  • Orillia - Lagoon City - Washago
  • Bracebridge - Gravenhurst
  • Huntsville - Baysville
  • Port Carling - Port Severn
  • Town of Parry Sound - Rosseau - Killbear Park
  • Fenelon Falls - Balsam Lake Park - Northern Kawartha Lakes
  • Lindsay - Southern Kawartha Lakes
  • Haliburton - Minden - Southern Haliburton County

The system is expected to move out of the southern and central Ontario overnight into Friday.
