With tens of thousands of people coming up Highway 11 for WayHome Music Festival and thousands more heading to cottage country for the weekend, police, firefighters and paramedics have to be ready for potential problems.

Provincial police say officers will be placed at all points around the WayHome Music Festival, guaranteeing emergency access at all times although police won’t say how many officers will be deployed or much else about the plan.

“We’ve been working continuously on updated our operational plan, the operation plan is based on our analysis and we’ll not discuss the deployment or the details of our operation,” says OPP Staff Sgt. Don Fawcett.

There will also be a number of fire trucks on standby parked all around the area.

“We’ll have firefighters in apparatus in strategic locations that can respond immediately,” says Oro-Medonte Fire Chief Hugh Murray.

And Simcoe County Paramedics are already on scene ready to respond wherever needed.

“We’re setup to have at least five paramedic units there at peak time, sometimes less when we don’t expect as many calls or as many people in the area,” says J.C. Gilbert with Simcoe Paramedics.

Should an emergency happen at the concert, a medical tent capable of handling dozens of people at a time is in place, staffed with four doctors, a nurse practitioner and other registered nurses to give 24-hour medical help.

OPP say they are also planning a number of R.I.D.E. Check programs will be set-up around Burl’s Creek this weekend.
