Police in Collingwood have charged an education assistant after she allegedly assaulted a student.

According to OPP, officers launched an investigation on Nov. 24 after receiving a complaint of an assault involving an elementary student and a teaching assistant at a Collingwood school.

Police say the incident happened on school property, during class hours. Investigators say there were no lasting physical injuries to the child.

A 60-year-old Collingwood woman was charged with assault. The accused will appear before a Collingwood court on Dec. 15.

The Simcoe County District School Board says they are aware of the incident and may conduct an internal investigation, pending the results of the police probe.

The board says the woman is still employed, but not in contact with students.
