A local wildlife expert is sounding the alarm about a disturbing discovery in a local wetland.

Naturalist Bob Bowles came across piles of dead geese that had been shot and dumped by the side of the road near Duntroon.

“It was sickening to see a pile of 35 big Canada geese,” said Bowels.

It's not clear who shot and dumped the geese right in the middle of a stream bed.

“It’s going to affect the fish habitat and water quality,” said Bowels.

Goose hunting season runs from September to December.

Hunters are required to possess a valid federal Migratory Game Bird Hunting Permit with a Canadian Wildlife Habitat Conservation Stamp to hunt migratory birds like geese in Canada.

The Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative responds to incidents of sick or dead wildlife.
