The deadline to remove permanent ice fishing huts in the Parry Sound and Muskoka region has arrived.

Ice fishing enthusiasts must remove all huts from the lakes and bays by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday.

Ontario’s Ministry of Natural Resources says anglers who don’t remove their huts by the deadline could face a hefty fine.

Officials say the removal of huts and accompanying debris helps to insure garbage and other materials don’t end up in the water when the ice melts.

The deadline further south in the region was two weeks ago. Temporary huts are still allowed on the ice in all areas, provided the ice is safe, and the huts are removed at the end of each day.
