It didn’t burn for long, but damage was extensive after a fire at a small storage unit in Tiny Township last night.

Dozens of firefighters and more than a twenty vehicles from Tiny, Tay, Springwater, and Penetanguishene responded.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s officer isn’t calling the four-hour fire suspicious. No one was injured at the 15-20 unit facility.

Tiny Township Fire Chief Tony Mintoff told CTV News there were a number of small explosions in the individual self-storage units. Compressed gas cylinders, propane tanks, and small vehicles where tires would have melted and popped could have caused the small explosions.

Officials don’t know what started the fire, and may never know, because the extreme heat from the fire destroyed “pretty much all” it contacted.

Witnesses told the fire department one tenant was working on a vehicle at the time the fire started.

Air testing last night confirmed there were no quality concerns, but people with wells in the area may want to get them tested because of the chemical run-off.

The owner of Ian Clarke’s Storage and Welding has been allowed back on the property after the scene was cleared at 10 a.m. today.
