A home west of Angus was destroyed by fire this afternoon and officials say it started in the chimney.

The fire broke out just before 1:30 p.m. at a home on Concession Road 3 near the 30th Sideroad of Adjala-Tosorontio.

When the Adjala-Tosorontio fire department arrived the home was engulfed by flames.

Crews attacked the fire and managed to prevent it from spreading to nearby bushes.

Two people were at home but they managed to get out safely.

Adjala-Tosorontio Fire Chief Ralph Snyder says it’s important for everyone to get their chimney’s inspected before winter.

“We need everybody to inspect their chimney’s, make sure they’re clean, WETT certified, a technician to inspect the chimney and they are safe to light. This is the second fire in two days caused by a chimney fire,” says Chief Snyder.

There is no word on how much damaged was caused by officials tell CTV News the home will have to be torn down.
