A few major construction projects are moving along to give some well-traveled routes a transformation.

County Road 90 has to be altered to accommodate thousands of residents who have moved into a new home development. A new bridge will also be built.

“We'll be reconstructing the entire road right from the City of Barrie to Angus from a two lane section to a five lane cross section that you see out there today,” says Christian Meile with the County of Simcoe. “We're hoping to be complete by 2019 or 2020 depending on all the contracts getting lined up.”

South of County Road 90, work on County Road 50 is nearing completion.

“That road was built in the 1940's and 1950's so there were a lot deficiencies that required correction,” says Meile. “We have basically reconstructed the road right from Highway 9 all the way to Highway 89 over the last several years.”

In order to complete the job, County Road 50 will have to be temporarily shut down.

“After the May long weekend there will be about a six week closure on County Road 50 so it will be completely closed from traffic south of Loretto.”

While County Road 50 traffic volume is moderate, County Road 90 is increasing at a much quicker rate.

It will be even busier over the summer, particularly during the second week of June. That’s when tens of thousands of people will travel along the road to attend CFB Borden's air show.

County officials say drivers will just have to be patient.
