Conservative Alex Nuttall has hung onto the riding of Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte.

Justice Mark Edwards said Friday evening that Nuttall won a recount by 86 votes over Liberal Brian Tamblyn.

Nuttall won the riding by 108 votes on October 19, which prompted the Liberals to ask for a judicial recount.

Nuttall was not in Barrie for the recount as he was working in Ottawa.

Tamblyn was in Barrie for the recount and released a statment shortly after the results. "This is obviously not the result we had hoped for,” said Tamblyn. “We made a strong showing in a very tight race. I ran for all the right reasons, and am proud of the over 500 volunteers who worked passionately for me and this riding.”

The judge also said 181 spoiled ballots were discovered during the recount.

A ottal of 50,535 votes were casted in the riding during the election with Nuttall getting 21,091 and Tamblyn 21,005.
