Two coaches with an Orangeville hockey team have been arrested, following a large marijuana bust in Amaranth.
Dufferin OPP was out enforcing a court ordered eviction notice at a home on the 8th Line of Amaranth on Tuesday afternoon.
While confirming the vacancy, officers discovered more than $65,000 in marijuana. This included plants, processed material and equipment used in producing marijuana.
Officers arrested 29-year-old Ryan Zeng of Orangeville, Coleman Schneider, 31, of New Jersey and 27-year-old Rada Culciak of Pennsylvania.
They have been charged with production of marijuana and possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking and production.
A spokesperson for the Greater Metro Hockey League confirms Zeng and Schneider worked with the Orangeville Ice Crusher hockey team.
The team’s website lists Zeng as the team’s goalie coach and Schnieder as head coach and general manager.
“In light of current problems involving two owner-staff members of the Orangeville Ice Crushers, GMHL President and GMHL Commissioner have directed these staff members to step away from team activities until further notice,” a statement says on the GMHL website.
The statement goes on to say Ice Crusher shareholder Jeff Oliver will take over operation of the team as head coach and GM.
Zeng has been released from custody on a promise to appear in court at a future date.
Culciak and Schneider we’re scheduled to appear before a judge on Wednesday for a bail hearing.
