A former Ontario M-P-P and cabinet minister is expected to throw his hat into the federal Conservative leadership contest later this afternoon.

Parry Sound-Muskoka M-P Tony Clement would be the third candidate from Ontario in the race -- joining former federal labour minister Kellie Leitch and Ontario M-P Michael Chong.

The 55-year-old served in the Ontario government of Mike Harris before becoming a versatile cabinet minister over the nine-and-a-half years of the Stephen Harper government in Ottawa.

He generated some controversy over improvements made in his riding for the 2010 G-8 summit when the auditor general found he should not have diverted 50-million dollars in federal funds for various buildings, including a gazebo.
