A 37-year-old man has been charged after a car was found in Lake Simcoe Monday evening.

The car went into the water around 6 p.m. at the Barrie Marina along Simcoe Street in Barrie.

Witnesses reported that the man was driving along a walking path, narrowly missing pedestrians, before jumping out of the car right before it plunged into the water.

One witness said he threatened to run her over with his car.

The man fled the scene in the direction of the Five Points intersection, but was pursued and caught by police on Dunlop Street.

Fire and paramedics were called, but divers determined there was no one in the car and no one in the water.

He is facing charges of dangerous driving, uttering threats, failure to comply with probation, and an outstanding warrant of arrest held by the OPP.

Police are also investigating him in relation to a hit and run on Monday afternoon.
