There is no one who receives more mail at this time of year than Santa Claus, but in order to get those letters to the North Pole in time, there are lots of people helping out.

So, with a week until Christmas, all through the land Canada Post elves are giving Santa a helping hand.

“We receive over a million Santa letters every year. Over 9,000 Santa elves - retired and current employees – help write those letters and get them to your home,” says Sarah Jane Madill.

They're sorting, and stacking and sending them away. But to hear back from Santa, the deadline's today.

“Today, Dec. 17 is the day,” says Ian Brohm with Canada Post.

You see Santa is busy during the holiday season, so he brings in some helpers and with good reason.

The elves are smart, without fail, responding in many languages – even braille.

“We love to see your pictures and your wish list but please don't forget we need your address, your street name and number,” says Madill.

Five-year-old Paige is asking for stickers and a doll. It's an order for Santa she hopes won't be too tall.

“The Canada Post Santa letter campaign has been in place for just over 30 years,” says Brohm. “We've helped get 22 million letters to all the boys and girls.”

Now the deadline to get your letters in was technically 4 p.m., but if you haven't mailed it in do not worry.

Canada Post has promised that as long as the letter is in the mailbox tonight they will get it to the North Pole and you'll hear back from Santa before Christmas.
