The boating season has just begun across the region and already businesses are booming thanks to the weather and reasonable gas prices.

Legend Boats in Innisfil has sold 200 boats since the beginning of May. Dealerships right across our region say spring sales are up and the weather is playing a major part.

“You need people out there enjoying their old boats, boats breakdown, you need to have them out there on their friends boats over the weekend so if there is a poor weather weekend we see it go hand-in-hand with the traffic we’re getting into the showrooms,” says Jesse Davis with Legend Boats.

Boating is a multi-million dollar industry in our area; once the boats leave the showroom they send a wave of revenue across the region.

“It’s something that brings so much extra attention to this area as well, no matter whether it’s restaurants, accommodations, anything like that the marine industry draws a lot more people into the area,” says Becky Gardhouse with Legend Boats.

Paula Bradley couldn’t agree more; the Dockside Grill is next to the Monto-Reno Marina and says she is already benefiting from the hundreds of boaters who have passed through so far this season.

“I think we’re going to have a great season, looks like we’re going to ramp everything up, once kids are out of school it will be lots of fun, lots of excitement,” says Bradley.
