A Barrie man has been charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm after a crash sent five people to hospital.

Police, fire and paramedics responded to a single vehicle crash on Highway 11 in Huntsville Tuesday morning.

According to police, a pick-up truck carrying five people left the highway and struck a rock cut which caused the truck to roll.

It happened around 7:20 a.m. in the northbound lanes between Rowanwood Road and Stephenson Road 12.

All five occupants were transported to hospital with various injuries. Three people were released with minor injuries while two people remain in hospital with serious injuries.

The highway was closed for several hours while police investigated.  

The driver of the pick-up truck, a 52-year-old Barrie man was charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm, operating a motor vehicle with over 80 mg of alcohol in his blood, operating a motor vehicle while disqualified and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

The accused will appear in court to face the charges in May.
